So you want to get started in Blogging and you don’t know where to start? Let’s talk about a few of the more popular Blogging Platforms out on the internet.

Blogger

Blogger is a Blogging Platform that is owned by Google.   It gives people a free option for creating and having a blog.  Blogger will create a sub-domain for your blog e.g. darenhillhouse.blogspot.com.  You can purchase a domain and point it to your Blogger account.

Tumblr

Is a microblogging and multimedia site.  Basically, It allows you to share short blogs and multimedia and users can subscribe to see all of your content.

WordPress.com

Much like Blogger this service allows you to create a sub-domain on wordpress.com and create and share a blog.  you can also purchase a domain and point it to your wordpress.com blog.

WordPress.org

This one is the option that I opt for.  You pay for a hosting account and you install WordPress on a domain. You can go to WordPress.org and download the files. The nice thing about this option is there are more themes and plugins that you can use to manage and make a site your own.  There are hundreds of thousands of themes and plugins that you can turn your WordPress into a full-blown website, as opposed to just a blog.

The one thing you’ll need to keep in mind, with this option, you are in charge of managing the website, plugins, and themes.  It’s up to you to keep everything up to date.  You will also want to make sure you do so, to keep it secure.

If you let it go there are people out there that have found security holes in each WordPress and they will exploit them and use them to gain access to your website and web hosting. I don’t say this to scare you, however, it’s really quite easy. You just need to keep it up to date.
